An Analysis of the Efficacy of the Psychodrama on Self-Disclosure and Counseling
Kim Eun-Hye

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the psychodramas on self-disclosure and counseling efficacy, with a view to propagate the psychodrama as a counseling program to cure the client with psychological disorder. As a result of this study, we have discovered the following: The subjects of the experiment were divided into two groups, the test group and the control group, respectively. The test group was given psychodrama treatment, while the other was given with conventional counseling programs. The two groups were then measured for their extents of self-disclosure and the efficacy of the counseling program. The test revealed the test group had an overwhelming advantage over the control group. Such a result evidences that the psychodrama approach has a deeper impact than the conventional counseling programs. The participants in the psychodrama treatment face their subconscious compulsions and suppressed emotions by expressing themselves in the process of acting in the psychodrama. Such a process again facilitates self-disclosure, making tangible differences. Also, what is different about psychodramas from other kinds of counseling programs is that, in a psychodrama, people gets to reenact their emotions and problems with dramatic elements rather than just speaking them out sitting in a chair. This dynamic process of expression diversifies the possible paths of emotional outbursts and solutions therefore, contributing to higher performances as a counseling program. As such, psychodramas promote the element beyond the daily lives of the people through artistic expressions and appreciate the individual uniqueness. Also, psychodramas serve our desires to see, listen, and feel by encouraging vigorous self-expression with a focus on the creativity. The psychodramas also give us the opportunities to take meaningful attentions to what other people has to express, too. Such attributes of the psychodramas should be actively utilized in the processes of counseling to facilitate the clients` self-disclosure and cultivate the self-initiatives with creativity, making our counseling and treatment sessions more productive and effective.
